ATLANTA (AP) — Rocco Rios Novo stopped the the shots he faced while Luiz Araujo scored as Atlanta United earned a 2-0 victory over Inter Miami. Following the victory, United is now 5-5-4, while Miami fell to 5-7-3.

BROOKLINE, Mass. (AP) — Adam Hadwin wasn’t officially in the U.S. Open until eight days ago. And then he walked off The Country Club with his best score ever in a major for a one-shot lead.

BOSTON (AP) — The Golden State Warriors are NBA champions once again, topping the Boston Celtics 103-90 for their fourth title in the last eight seasons. Stephen Curry scored 34 points for the Warriors, who claimed the franchise’s seventh championship overall. And this one completed a journey like none other, after a run of five consecutive finals, then a plummet to the bottom of the NBA, and now a return to greatness just two seasons after having the league’s worst record.

NEW YORK (AP) — Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia and Seattle and Kansas City, Missouri, were the newcomers among the 11 U.S. sites picked to host games at the 2026 World Cup, while Baltimore, Cincinnati, Denver, Nashville, Tennessee, and Orlando, Florida, were left out.

Seattle Storm star and five-time Olympic gold medalist Sue Bird says the 2022 season will be her last playing in the WNBA. The announcement by the 41-year-old ended any speculation about her future. She acknowledged in February when she re-signed with Seattle that this would likely be her final season.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder has impressed himself — and coach Arthur Smith — with his ability to quickly absorb the Atlanta Falcons’ playbook. Ridder is still considered the challenger to veteran Marcus Mariota in the Falcons’ quarterback competition.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Austin Riley homered twice and the Atlanta Braves won their 14th straight game, beating the Washington Nationals 8-2. Rookie Spencer Strider allowed one hit over 5 2/3 innings for Atlanta. Orlando Arcia started at second base in place of the injured Ozzie Albies and had a homer, three singles and a walk.

DENVER (AP) — Andre Burakovsky scored 1:23 into overtime and the Colorado Avalanche opened the Stanley Cup Final with a 4-3 victory over the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday night.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — When Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson and emotional, do-everything teammate Draymond Green began Golden State’s climb nearly a decade ago, they were still relatively young and each establishing themselves in their careers. No. 1 national seed Tennessee is out of the NCAA baseball tournament. Mississippi, the last team selected, punched its ticket to the College World Series. Sunday produced the biggest surprises of a tournament that went mostly according to form in the regional round. Super regionals have made up for that lack of drama. Notre Dame beat Tennessee 7-3 in the deciding game of their super regional. Ole Miss won 5-0 at Southern Mississippi, Oklahoma beat No. 4 Virginia Tech 11-2 and Arkansas eliminated North Carolina 4-3. Texas A&M clinched its CWS bid Saturday.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — When the Golden State Warriors made their fourth-quarter push to get back into the NBA Finals, Draymond Green had the unusual role as spectator. The versatile Green who has been one of the stalwarts of Golden State’s dynasty got pulled in crunch time of Game 4 in what was a and effective decision by coach Steve Kerr.

The two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning face the best in the West Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final beginning Wednesday in Denver. Tampa Bay is the first team since Wayne Gretzky’s Edmonton Oilers from 1983-85 to make the final in three consecutive years.

The defending World Series champion Braves began the day having trimmed five games off the New York Mets’ division lead since the winning streak started June 1.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Second-year player Feleipe Franks is exploring a new hybrid role with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason. Franks, from Arkansas, is still listed as a quarterback but he is spending more time at tight end in the organized team activities. It seems clear the new dual role for Franks will continue in next week's mandatory minicamp.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan has spent the past several months getting acclimated to a new offense, a new locker room and a new city. So far it looks like a perfect fit.

ATLANTA (AP) — Max Fried won his sixth straight decision by pitching six sharp innings and the Atlanta Braves earned their eighth consecutive victory, 3-1 over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Adam Duvall, Dansby Swanson and Travis d’Arnaud each drove in a run for the defending World Series champion Braves, whose winning streak is their longest since they took nine in a row last August. Atlanta has outscored opponents 55-21 during the streak.

The PGA Tour says members who are playing in the Saudi-funded league in London are no longer eligible to play tour events. Commissioner Jay Monahan has sent out a memo indicating the sanctions against Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and 15 other players. The memo went out a short time after the LIV Golf Invitational outside London began with a 48-player field.

BOSTON (AP) — The Golden State Warriors’ last chance at pulling out a comeback victory in Game 3 of the NBA Finals ended during a scramble that went Boston's way with 3½ minutes left. Marcus Smart emerged with the ball, and the Celtics held on to win 116-100 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

ATLANTA (AP) — Rookie Michael Harris gave Atlanta the lead with a two-run triple in the fifth inning that spoiled Jared Koenig’s major league debut, and the surging Braves beat the skidding Oakland Athletics 13-2. Ian Anderson pitched six solid innings and the Braves rallied from a 2-0 deficit for the second straight night to sweep the two-game series and extend their season-best winning streak to seven.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Longtime Georgia swimming coach Jack Bauerle has announced his retirement. Bauerle won seven NCAA women’s team championships in his 43 years as coach. The 70-year-old is the longest-tenured coach of any sport in Georgia history.

NEW YORK (AP) — Atlanta shortstop Dansby Swanson has become the fourth member of the World Series champion Braves to go to salary arbitration. He is asking a three-person panel for $10 million while the Braves argued for $9.2 million.
